Location of Sighting: Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand
Date of Sighting: May 9, 2018
Time of Sighting: 7:40 PM Local Time
Description: I was outside in our garden. We live on the outskirts of the city and night sky visibility is very good. I saw a silent lowish flying object with an orange flame-like base heading from Opoho towards the Dunedin harbour. I called my husband to come look and we both watched it for about 30 seconds. We are boring, middle aged skeptics. But I can’t explain this. It was fast moving, glowing orange, changed trajectory slightly a couple of times while we watched. It did not look or sound like an aircraft, and was moving too fast to be a lantern or other object moving in the wind. I did not have time to take photos or a video, but when I went to search for this phenomenon online, I found multiple other accounts of orange orb sightings. It wasn’t something I had ever heard of before.
